The Omaha National Martial Arts Championship (ONMAC) is set to return for its 17th year on Saturday, May 3, 2025, promising a day of intense competition and martial arts excellence.  As participants prepare for this esteemed event, understanding the 2025 competition rules is crucial for success

Competition Divisions

ONMAC offers a diverse array of 123+ divisions, catering to various martial arts disciplines and skill levels. The primary categories include:

  • Traditional Forms: Competitors perform standardized patterns or katas that reflect the foundational techniques and philosophies of their martial arts style.
  • Creative Forms: Participants showcase innovative routines, integrating traditional moves with personal flair and creativity.
  • Weapons Forms: Demonstrations involving traditional martial arts weapons, emphasizing technique, control, and performance.
  • Self-Defense: Scenarios where martial artists exhibit practical applications of techniques against simulated attacks.
  • Team Forms: Groups perform synchronized routines, highlighting unity and collective skill.
  • Light Contact Sparring: Controlled sparring sessions focusing on technique and strategy rather than full-contact engagement.

Grand Championships

ONMAC distinguishes itself by recognizing the most versatile martial artists through its All-Around Grand Champions awards, segmented into four categories:

  1. Under 18 Under Black Belt
  2. Over 18 Under Black Belt
  3. Under 18 Black Belt
  4. Over 18 Black Belt

Winners are determined based on point accumulation across multiple divisions, ensuring that well-rounded martial artists are duly acknowledged. Points are awarded to competitors placing in the top three of their divisions, following a 5 (first place), 3 (second place), and 1 (third place) scale. This structure mandates that competitors must place in a division to earn points toward the grand championships. In the event of a tie, a forms run-off will decide the Grand Champion.

Adherence to USKF and NOMAD Standards

ONMAC aligns with the standard competition rules set forth by the United States Kido Federation (USKF) and the National Organization of Martial Arts Disciples (NOMAD). Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these guidelines to ensure compliance and optimal performance.

Awards and Recognition

To honor the dedication and skill of participants, ONMAC offers:

  • Medals: Bestowed upon top performers in all divisions, serving as a testament to their hard work and achievement.
  • Custom Awards: Grand Champions will receive custom made awards after all totals have been tallied.

Competitors are encouraged to review the “Rules at a Glance” PDF available on the official ONMAC website for detailed information.

As the championship approaches, martial artists from across the nation are gearing up to showcase their prowess and dedication. Whether you’re a participant or a spectator, the 2025 Omaha National Martial Arts Championship promises to be an event filled with skill, passion, and the indomitable spirit of martial arts.
